When can you do the estate inventory yourself?

The law does not require a lawyer for an estate inventory. For an ordinary estate with clear heirs, domestic assets and no disputes, the inventory can be done yourself. What matters most is that the shareholders, assets and debts are established carefully as of the date of death.

When should you turn to a professional?

Professional help is needed especially if the estate has foreign assets or heirs, a dispute between shareholders, insolvency, business property, a minor heir's conflict of interest, a pending divorce, or an undivided estate from an earlier death.

Is a self-made deed valid?

Yes. The Tax Administration does not require the deed to be drawn up by a lawyer. A correctly and carefully completed deed is accepted by the Tax Administration regardless of who prepared it.
